The first St Giles College was founded in London in 1955 by Paul and Diana Lindsay. Since then the organisation has grown in the UK, USA, Canada and Brazil.

Reception at London Highgate

Today, with more than 50 years' experience teaching English and running schools, the St Giles Group of colleges is one of the largest and most successful international English language training organisations, with a total of eight year-round schools worldwide. Every year an average of 10,000 students, from over 90 different countries choose St Giles for their English language learning needs.

In 2006 we were voted Star English Language School worldwide in the Language Travel Magazine's Star Awards!

All our UK centres are accredited by the British Council and are members of English UK (formerly ARELS). St Giles San Francisco's’ teacher training courses are approved by the California State Department of Education. The teacher training courses at St Giles Brighton, Highgate and San Francisco are all validated by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) and the training courses at St Giles Eastbourne and London Central are validated by Trinity College London. St Giles Vancouver is a member of Languages Canada (formerly CAPLS) and the CEC Network.

Teaching is our core service, and to maintain the highest teaching standards we only employ teachers with special qualifications in English Language Teaching. All our teachers are carefully selected and extensively briefed in the St Giles approach to learning and teaching.

The St Giles approach to teaching and learning a language is essentially learner-centred and communicative. This means teachers focus on your needs, your interests and your aims. You, the learner, are encouraged to participate actively in the process of learning and acquiring the language.

We encourage teachers to improve their qualifications by providing them with financial support for further study and training, and all centres offer regular in-service training for teachers. As well as English language teaching, St Giles is also a leading teacher training organisation, offering Certificate and Diploma ELT qualifications. Our expert teachers, who are training other teachers, continue to teach our international students - which means St Giles has some of the most experienced and well-qualified teachers in the field.
