  • If your student is planning to study with us in the UK for less than 6 months, and is a visa national, he/she can apply for a Student Visitor Visa (SVV). More details about this visa can be found on the UK Border Agency Website
  • If your student would like to study for between 6-11 months, and is a visa national, he/she can apply for the new Extended Visitor Visa (ESVV)
  • If your student would like to study for 11+ months, he/she will require a General Student Visa (GSV) under the Tier 4 Points Based System. More details about applying can be found also on the UK Border Agency Website here.

Determining Level for GSV Students

Normally we will only sponsor students for a GSV if they are taking a course of 11 or more months. Students taking a shorter course can enter the UK on an SVV or ESVV.

If your student will be applying for a General Student Visa (GSV), they will need to provide evidence of their level when they apply for a VISA. They will need to meet the level requirements as outlined by UKBA. Evidence of English level must be in the form of a Secure English Language Test (SELT) certificate. Please visit the UKBA's website for the current list of approved SELTs, or contact us to request it.

It is not be possible to use the St Giles Online Test as proof of level. This can be used as a guide only.

Student Intent for GSV Students

It is also important that students applying for a GSV complete our 'Declaration of Intent' and send it with their enrolment. You can download this document below:

Parental Consent

Visa applicants aged under 18 will need to have a Parental Consent Form. These can be downloaded here:
