Some Time Out in San Francisco

February 6th, 2012

Sibylle Broennimann is currently learning English at our San Francisco centre. Here Sibylle talks about her much-needed break in the rejuvenating city.

Before I came to San Francisco I quit my job. I really needed a timeout from my life. One Saturday I sat by the lake watching the water and my head was like a train station: loud, confused and without orientation. So, I decided to take a break in S.F. to gain new power and bring more organization in my life.

One month after this cold day on the lake, I found myself in San Francisco.  From the first second onward, I’ve felt free and I’ve felt the power in my body. It’s a feeling I will never forget. It’s been like a rejuvenation to my body.

I’ve stopped making plans for the day because every day is different and brings new feelings and it’s not possible to do exactly what I’ve chosen the day before. When I walk around the streets and I watch all the different social situations (rich people versus homeless people) I start to think about my own life. I realize how rich I am. It has nothing to do with money. It’s about other things that help create a happy life: love, friendship, a place to live and people you can trust. I crossed the street and went back to my apartment. I put my pajamas on and walked to the window and looked out at the houses and smiled.

I don’t have any plans for my future. I just know one thing: live and enjoy every day like it would be your last. And this will be my plan for when I leave San Francisco. Good night my lovely city.  We will see each other tomorrow.

Eastbourne – The sunniest place in the UK!

January 30th, 2012

Eastbourne has topped the sunshine league for another year confirming its status as the sunniest place in the UK with the highest number of sunshine hours for 2011 according to leading weather expert Philip Eden.

Eastbourne recorded an impressive 1962 hours of sunshine during 2011, significantly more than holiday destinations Jersey and Guernsey.

Over the past 12 months Eastbourne had an average of 5 hours 23 minutes of sun per day with a fantastic 273.9 hours of sunshine in April 2011, almost 100 hours more than the average.

The south coast destination also had an exceptionally warm year during 2011 with the highest overall average temperature on record.

The town has a history of record-breaking sunshine statistics making it a popular holiday destination attracting over 4.9 million visitors a year.

With a packed calendar of events coming up in 2012, including special celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Games, and a sunny start to the year already, Eastbourne is looking forward to an exciting year ahead!

Student Stories: My love of San Francisco

January 27th, 2012

Daniele Bonazzi is currently studying at our San Francisco centre. Here Daniele tells us about his dream of moving to the city.

Tony Bennett said, “I left my heart in San Francisco” and this is exactly what happened to me the first time I came here. But what is San Francisco? A city? More than a city, San Francisco is magic, it’s romantic, and it’s addictive. I’m matching very well with San Francisco because I’m a rebel – I don’t like conformism. I like this spirit of freedom that you can feel down the streets.

Like Tony Bennett, I fell in love with this city, and San Francisco fell in love with me.

My goal is to move to the USA for the rest of my life. I’m just 22 years old and luckily I already know what I want in my life. I’m working on my dream. I don’t know yet when exactly I’ll move to S.F., but someday, as soon as possible, this city will belong to me!
