CBEI Business English Course

The CBEI Business English Course is an intensive course designed for business people, young professionals and international students who need English for career, business or educational purposes.

This intensive business English course includes three main components:

  • Business Writing
  • Business Aural/Oral Skills
  • Business Concepts

Business English

Students learn to write clearly and accurately, improving grammar and business English vocabulary. Students use a computer lab for assignments, helping them to develop valuable ITC skills and become familiar with English in an office-type environment.

Business Oral Skills

Students learn a variety of work and business communication skills and how to use them in situations such as meetings, interviews, presentations, telephone calls and negotiations. There is also a focus on pronunciation and oral fluency.

Business Concepts

Students explore various business-related concepts such as marketing, finance, management and international trade, as well as looking at the principles of business in terms of cultural differences in international communication and the use of idiomatic expressions. This part of the course involves working on individual and group projects, as well as a series of field trips and practical case studies.

Business English Practicum

Students who successfully complete the CBEI Business English Course and whose English is of at least an intermediate level may opt to do an internship at the end of the course. This is an extension of the Business English course and is aimed at helping students to use their English and cross-cultural skills in a real working environment.

Students are placed in a local company according to their goals, previous experience and availability of placements. The St Giles Vancouver internship coordinator will advise and supervise the student throughout the internship.

Possible Internships

We can find internships in a variety of fields including:

  • International banking
  • International trade
  • Advertising
  • Marketing
  • Travel and hospitality
  • Business administration

All internship participants are expected to give their full commitment to the programme and to their host companies.

Course Length

Students study for a minimum of 4 weeks, with 28 lessons per week. There is no maximum course length, but the placement may not constitute more than 50% of the programme.
