Making Progress

Test your English level
Use our online English level test to check your current level of English. This will help you to see which courses you can take with us.
Teacher-contact time
All lessons at St Giles are 50 minutes long. Therefore the contact time for courses will be as follows:
- 35 lessons (Platinum Courses) = 29.1 hours
- 30 lessons (Platinum, UFBC) = 25 hours
- 28 lessons = 23.3 hours
- 25 lessons (Platinum Courses) = 20.8 hours
- 22 lessons (San Francisco) = 18.3 hours
- 20 lessons = 16.7 hours
- 15 lessons = 12.5 hours
Level Descriptions
We use the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) to determine your English level. There are six levels, ranging from A1 to C2.
For each of these you can download below a description of each level and the learner outcomes for each level. These are things you will be able to do when you have that level of English:
