San Francisco Bay Area

San Francisco has long been a favourite destination for language travellers. The combination of a mild year-round climate, fantastic sightseeing, shops and restaurants, bars and night-life, and some of the most beautiful scenery in the USA, ensures a steady flow of visitors to this relaxed but vibrant, diverse and above all welcoming city. It is the ideal environment in which to live, study and learn about American culture, offering excellent opportunities in sports, entertainment and the arts. Spectacular beaches surround the city and you can sail or surf here all year round. San Francisco has more restaurants than any other city in the USA, and is the home of many theatres, music and dance companies, as well as a variety of museums. On our junior programme, students will also have the opportunity to explore the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, as well as the surrounding areas of Berkeley, Napa Valley and Carmel.
The Campus
Teaching, accommodation, catering, sports and social facilities are all provided at The Cal State University. This is a closed campus, offering a wide range of brand new facilities.
Campus facilities include a bright, modern cafeteria, spacious classrooms, large sports halls, a theatre for film shows and other activities. We also arrange discos and other fun events, all for junior students only, at a local nightclub.

All students are accommodated in twin bedrooms with shared bathroom facilities and each room has a desk for each student. The shared common lounge space per six students has a fridge, microwave, table, chairs and couches. There is an additional study room on each floor. The residence includes computer room, a games room and a laundry room. The accommodation is very safe - St Giles staff live on-site, and the residence has its own 24-hour security. Students also have a special key card for entry to the complex. The cafeteria is located just across the road from students' residence and all meals are provided in large cafeteria except on excursions when a packed-lunch is given to all students. Wholesome and varied food is served, and special dietary requirements can be catered for.
Language Programme
Students study for 20 lessons per week in international classes of up to 15 students. Each lesson lasts for 50 minutes. On their first day students take a test to ensure they are placed in an appropriate level. There are six levels of study, from beginner to advanced. All students receive an end-of-course certificate.
Our Teachers
All our teachers are graduates with recognised TEFL certificates, and are extensively briefed on the particular needs of young learners. The language is brought to life through a vibrant and functional approach. In addition to formal language skills training, lessons include project work, videos, games and use of St Giles International's wide variety of modern English language teaching resources.
