Our junior summer course offers learners aged 12-17 from all over the world the opportunity to improve their English language skills whilst enjoying a varied and exciting activity programme.
The course takes place in the historic city of Southampton, one of the most cosmopolitan cities on England's south coast. It offers an extensive range of cultural, leisure, entertainment and shopping facilities. Famous for its maritime heritage it was home to the Titanic and still welcomes cruise liners and luxury yachts to its bustling waterfront today.
The popular West Quay shopping centre, the largest on the south coast of England, and the Leisure World entertainment complex, offering ten-pin bowling, cinemas and theatres, make Southampton an exciting environment in which students can relax and learn.
Southampton is ideally located for easy access to London and its major airports as well as many other popular destinations, such as Oxford, Bournemouth, Windsor and The New Forest.
Teaching, accommodation, catering, sports and social facilities are all provided at the Southampton Solent University. Its position in the heart of the city means students can easily reach Southampton's many attractions on foot.
Campus facilities include a bright, modern cafeteria, spacious classrooms, large sports hall, a theatre for film shows and other activities. We also arrange discos and other fun events, all for junior students only, at a local nightclub.
All students are accommodated in single bedrooms with private bathrooms. The accommodation is in a modern residence a few minutes' walk across a pleasant park from the main campus. Additionally the residence offers a large common room with TV, video, pool table and vending machines, where students can relax with their new friends. A laundry room is also available. The accommodation is very safe, with St Giles staff staying on-site, as well as the residence's own 24-hour security.
Students study for 20 lessons per week in international classes of up to 15 students. Each lesson lasts for 50 minutes. On their first day students take a test to ensure they are placed in an appropriate level. There are six levels of study, from beginner to advanced. All students receive an end-of-course certificate.
All our teachers are graduates with recognised TEFL certificates, and are extensively briefed on the particular needs of young learners. The language is brought to life through a vibrant and functional approach. In addition to formal language skills training, lessons include project work, videos, games and use of St Giles International's wide variety of modern English language teaching resources.
There is one full-day and one half-day excursion per week. Full-day excursions are to London, Oxford, Brighton, Bath and the Isle of Wight. Half-day excursions are to Winchester, The New Forest, Bournemouth and Stonehenge.
There is also a full social programme every afternoon and evening, including a variety of sports (e.g. football, volleyball, basketball) and other activities (e.g. film shows, discos, bowling) and visits to local sites of interest.
The course runs from 2nd July - 20th August 2006. All arrivals and departures are on Sundays. Students may study from 2-4 weeks. The fee per week is GBP 480.
