A match made in Heaven: Football Coaching and English Tuition
Are you a parent with kids between 12-17 years old interested in studying English whilst receiving football coaching? Then, St Giles’ Football & Sports Academy will be the ideal summer break.
Between the 9th July and the 13th August 2025, St Giles will welcome students to the Yorkshire Football and Sports Academy at Ackworth School, which is located in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.
This immersive summer programme combines a traditional boarding school experience and the chance for your kids to improve their sports abilities thanks to on-site professional coaching.

Yorkshire Football & Sports Academy
The course has space for a total of 120 students split between 15 children per class with 20 lessons in the morning every week (16.7 hours total).
Football Coaching
What makes this course unique is that the coaching and training is offered by Coach John McDermott who is a former professional football player and a UEFA-licensed coach which is the highest standard in football coaching offered.
Boasting over 25 years of football experience, students will be able to gain insight into the world of professional football from a coach that has won the annual PFA Merit award which was also won by the most elite footballing legends like Sir Alex Ferguson, David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, and many more!
Multi-Sport Option
This summer programme isn’t limited to just football. The course is also available for students interested in a variety of sports with a range of facilities available to help them train and improve.
The multi-sport option offers plenty of supervised training opportunities for other sports like tennis, swimming, hockey, netball, and cricket.
Weekly Activities
To ensure that each student thoroughly enjoys their time with us, the course will also have exciting daily activities and trips.
These activities range from fun games such as Capture the Flag, board games, quizzes, a talent show, and rounders. As well as activities ranging from karaoke, film nights, and discos.
There will also be exciting day trips to the beach, local tourist attractions, and popular cities such as Manchester and Liverpool where students will be given a guided tour of the amazing Etihad and Anfield stadiums.
Learn about the British Culture
As mentioned, students attending the course will be in a traditional English Boarding school. Here they will experience the life of a typical English student. Through the exclusive use of the Ackworth School campus, students will learn about British culture in and outside of the classroom.
There will also be plenty of opportunities to learn and practice conversing like locals through the weekly excursions that will help with their confidence in daily conversation with their peers and locals.
Safe and Secure Environment
In addition to the onsite accommodations, all students will have access to:
- A member of staff for every 15 students
- Free wi-fi
- School canteen for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (included).
- Facilities like football pitches, cricket pitches, athletics fields, netball and tennis courts, and a swimming pool.
- Weekly cleaning
- Students will have 24/7 supervision and on-site staff to ensure the safety and well-being of all students are looked after
Arrival and Departures
Every Wednesday, St Giles will also be assisting with all arrivals and departures of students undertaking the course regardless of which airport you choose. Options are:
- Manchester Airport (1.5 hours away)
- London Heathrow (3.5 hours away)
