St Giles Online CELTA

The St Giles Online CELTA Course

For the first time ever, we are able to offer you the opportunity to take a St Giles CELTA course 100% online. Qualify to start your career as an English language teacher in just 4 weeks without leaving your home (we also offer a part-time online CELTA course over 12 weeks). Your future starts now.

The Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) is recognised by the British Council and by a large number of employers and governments across the globe. St Giles is one of the longest established providers of teacher training in the UK.

The online CELTA course:

  • Leads to a full CELTA qualification

  • Is accessible from anywhere in the world if you have a computer and a good internet connection

  • Is open to first language English speakers and speakers of other languages

  • Is taught live online by experienced St Giles teacher trainers in a positive and supportive environment

  • Requires 120 hours of attendance (6 hours per day for 4 weeks) and additional hours of self study

  • Runs from 9.00 – 18.00 (UK time – with breaks) each day from Monday to Friday

  • Includes 6 hours of observed (online) teaching practice with feedback from your trainers (you will work with groups of 6-12 students at two different levels)

  • Gives you the opportunity to observe authentic classes (live and/or on video) delivered by experienced teachers and demonstration lessons by your course tutors.

Our Zoom Classroom is Dynamic

This enables you to interact with the trainers and your peers and to work in small groups in the same way as a physical classroom. You will receive a training session on teaching with Zoom on the first day of your course as well as a demonstration lesson: you will be able to use some of the techniques you learn on the course within your teaching practice. Your interview for the CELTA course will also be conducted via Zoom. Throughout the course, your trainers will help you to consider how the same sessions might be delivered in a physical classroom.

Assessment

There is no examination. You will be continuously assessed throughout your six hours of teaching practice and you will complete four assessed written assignments.

Eligibility

CELTA applicants must be at least 18 years old.

No previous teaching experience or knowledge is required but applicants should have a university degree or a standard of education equivalent to that which is required for entry to university. However, because the qualification is internationally recognised, some experienced English language teachers in schools around the world also choose to take the CELTA course.

Acceptance on the course is subject to a language test and interview.

Your level of English language must be at least C1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and preferably C2. Good language awareness is essential.

Trainees are required to attend introductory sessions on the Thursday and Friday afternoons before each 4-week course.

Apart from this we just need you to be willing to work hard and to have a strong motivation to teach!

Further information about the CELTA course and about the benefits of the qualification can be found on the main CELTA page.
