St Giles Teachers of English Course (TEC)

The St Giles TEC is a teacher development course for non-first language speaker teachers of English who want to expand or update their professional knowledge and teaching methodology and to improve their own English language skills.

During the course, the participants explore specific aspects of teaching methodology and techniques as well as utilising and evaluating a range of teaching aids and resources. At the end of the course, all receive a St Giles 'Teacher of English Course' Certificate.

The areas covered include:

  • Language development
  • Background to language learning and teaching
  • Different methodologies for teaching
  • Classroom management and practical teaching skills
  • Lesson planning
  • Teaching aids and resources
  • Observation of experienced teachers

The TEC courses are very flexible and can be adapted to suit the specific needs of the participants. We can also design tailored TEC courses for ‘closed groups’ of teachers travelling to St Giles together at any time of year.

In order to benefit from the course, the participants’ level of English should be at least B2 on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). This is Equivalent to Cambridge English: First.

At present, you may be able to get a contribution towards the cost of your course at St Giles International and your stay in the UK, from the EU programme ERASMUS+. You can download a short ERASMUS+ information sheet here

This may change after the UK’s exit from the European Union. You can find further information on the Erasmus + website.

Please note that individuals cannot apply for funds from this programme, but your school, college or university can apply for an ERASMUS+ mobility project once a year, in March, and they can use this to support your participation. Your organisation will need our PIC (Personal Identification Code) number which is: 943613867TEC

You can also find details of dates and fees for the courses here.
