The aim of this course is to support new teachers who have recently completed their CELTA course with the further development of their knowledge of the English language and of their language analysis skills for effective planning and delivery. The course is also very much relevant for teachers at any stage of their career who are seeking to refresh their knowledge and skills in this area.
This post- CELTA course aims to broaden the participants’ understanding of grammar and to enable them to become more familiar with the common areas of language which are taught to learners at different levels. In addition, it will build their confidence in working with the learners and identifying their needs.
Each session of the 2-day course will include both trainer-led and practical workshop elements.
The course will explore:
1. How best to analyse the meaning, pronunciation features and the written form of selected grammar areas in a classroom setting
2. Common problems which learners encounter with each language area and L1 interference
3. Suitable contexts for the teaching of the language areas
4. Recommended ELT resources and materials
5. The link between each language area and the CEFR
The course will run at the Brighton Centre of St Giles International on the following consecutive Saturdays:
25 April and 2 May 2020
27 June and 4 July 2020
5 September and 12 September 2020
It will begin at 10.00 and finish at approximately 17.00 each day.
The course fee is £150.
