The aim of this course is to support new teachers who have recently completed their CELTA course to further develop their knowledge of the English language and their language analysis skills. The course is also very much relevant for teachers at any stage of their career who are seeking to refresh their knowledge and analysis skills in this area. It will broaden the participants' understanding of grammar and enable them to become more familiar with the common areas of language which are taught to learners at different levels. In addition, it will build their confidence in working with the learners and identifying their needs.
This course will be delivered via the online platform Zoom. Basic guidance will be given by the tutor but we advise any applicants who have not used Zoom before to familiarise themselves with this.
All the sessions of this 2-day online course will be trainer-led but they will also be very interactive. Participants will be asked to complete a pre-course task which will itself lead into the first language session. This will be sent in advance of the course start-date.
The course will explore:
1. How best to analyse the meaning, pronunciation features and the written form of selected grammar areas in a physical or an online classroom setting
2. Common problems which learners encounter with each language area and L1 interference
3. The link between each language area and the CEFR: this will be useful if you are just starting out as a teacher
The next course will run for two consecutive Saturdays, 7 & 14 November 2020.
Course hours: 10:00 to 16:30 including a lunch break and two short coffee breaks
Course fee: £150.
